About Kristi Foster, Ph.D.

Kristi holds a PhD in clinical psychology with a specialty in Somatic (body-centered) Psychology. She has a body-based psychotherapy practice wherein she uses Somatic Experiencing (SE), touch (with a client's permission), EMDR, body awareness, and movement practices. She commonly works with anxiety, depression, PTSD, resolution of childhood abuse and sexual abuse, pregnancy, preparation for birthing, couples who've experienced trauma, and relationship difficulties with parents and their infants. She also practices Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy ( a form of therapy designed to resolve early life relational traumas in an accelerated time frame. Her experience blending SE and AEDP has made her excellent at creating a safe space that allows easier access to, and resolution of frightening feelings and emotions. She helps clients resolve trauma, learn what a sense of safety feels like, develop a greater capacity to feel good, and more deeply acquaint themselves with their own internal landscape. Her work is based on the philosophy that resolving trauma while learning how to connect more deeply with oneself and others leads to greater levels of love, connection, joy and pleasure in life. She has nineteen years experience in embodiment practices as a certified yoga teacher, touch therapist, leader of sexuality and movement workshops, and as a doula supporting pregnant and postpartum women in birthing and learning to communicate with their infants. Along with working as primary therapist for clients, she is happy to work somatically in conjunction with a client's psychotherapist. Note to SE students: Kristi runs study and practice groups for SE students and has foundation approval to offer consults for beginners and sessions for credit to all levels of SE students.
