About Alicen L. Halquist

Alicen is a Licensed Psychotherapist with a Masters Degree in Somatic Psychology from the Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. She has over 20 years experience studying the Somatic Experiencing Model (SE). She has extensive experience integrating SE with the DARE & PACT Models which facilitate the understanding and healing of neurological/physiological underpinnings of attachment trauma that is pre-verbal and/or sub-psychological. This understanding has been instrumental in advocating for children and helping care providers and educators understand how to attend in a way that brings about nervous system re-regulation. Alicen also integrates a deep mindfulness approach, informed by eastern philosophy, meditation practice, yoga, dance/creative arts therapy, parenting her son (9) and daughter(6) and a belief that healing trauma can give us direct access to spiritual expansion.Alicen has been in private practice since 1995 specializing in trauma resolution (anxiety, depression, psychosomatic symptoms related to trauma, etc.), treating adults, adolescents and children. Her past professional experience includes work with the treatment of impact trauma (ie. auto accidents), pre and perinatal trauma, chronic mental illness, addiction, drug and alcohol abuse. She has also provided inpatient treatment for recovery of abuse, eating disorders, self harm behaviors and impulse control issues. She also developed and directed a community based integrated movement therapy program for children.
