About Joyce Arendt
Joyce specializes in therapy aimed at reducing the devastating effects from difficult life events. She believes working with the mind, body and soul is the most powerful way of healing from the unforeseen events that occur in all our lives. Joyce believes most mental health symptoms and many medical issues originate in these events rather than being deficits or disorders of the person and can be resolved through therapies that address the whole person. Joyce is passionate and committed to helping individuals achieve connection to themselves and others. She draws upon her wealth of information and experience to guide clients through their own unique journey.
Joyce has been providing counseling services for almost twenty years in various settings and has been extensively trained in various models of play therapy (i.e., Sand Tray, Experiential, Filial), Somatic Experiencing and EMDR. She effectively integrates her knowledge from these trainings with traditional psychotherapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; thereby enhancing the healing for children & families, adolescents and adults that address the majority of mental health issues from anxiety and depression to trauma and chronic pain.
Joyce earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Minnesota, majoring in Child Psychology and her Master of Social Work Degree from the College of St. Catherine/University of St. Thomas, Minnesota. Joyce is a co-founder and past President of the Minnesota Association for Play Therapy (MNAPT), having served as a Board of Directors Member and Conference Committee Chair.
Joyce received certifications through the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute (SETI) as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and through the Association for Play Therapy as a Registered Play Therapist and Supervisor. Joyce nationally and internationally provides Assistant and Provider services through SETI for all levels of Somatic Experiencing and consultant services for beginning level. She is a state-wide presenter and provides trainings, supervision/consultation services to other therapists seeking licensure or certification in social work and/or play therapy.
