About Shelley Hughes

Being human is to experience wounds and to suffer but we also have innate capacities that provide a means of recovering and healing from life's painful experiences and traumas.  Besides suffering, we also evolved to experience joy and connection and engagement with life.  Trauma and developmental ruptures can disrupt these natural processes of connection and engagement.  While we have innate means of healing sometimes we need help to recover.  If you are having troubling emotions, difficulty handling stress, challenges in your important relationships, or chronic health issues, these can often times be helped to resolve.  When the body comes back into regulation and the resiliency is restored to the nervous system, symptoms transform.  I will partner with you to resolve the barriers, connect with your own unique strengths and abilities, learn new skills and re-discover your birth right to a vital and meaningful life.   My style is gentle, compassionate, relational, and sensitive to each individual's needs and goals. I have over 25 years of experience and 8 years with body oriented therapies focused on healing trauma.  I integrate psychoneurobiology, early childhood development, attachment theory as well as nutrition and touch. I have certifications in Somatic Experiencing and BASE.  I have also trained in Bodynamics, a body centered approach to healing developmental ruptures, DARE attachment training with Diane Pool Heller, and Dave Berger's BASE training and Concussion training.  I am an Advanced level SE Assistant and also approved to assist Dave Berger in the BASE training.  I am also approved to provide personal sessions for SE students at the intermediate level.  For more in depth information about me and how I work, please check out my website at
