About Dawn Bhat

In my private psychotherapy practice, I integrate SE and work with the body along with traditional approaches to psychoherapy. I have training in Eugene Gendlin's Focusing and have had ongoing Focusing partnerships since 2012. I may work spiritually with the bodymind, as I am also a yoga and meditation teacher (ERYT-200/RYT-500). Within sessions, I tend to work relationally. I trained with Diane Poole Heller in NYC (Module 1: Healing Early Attachment Wounds & Embracing the Authentic Self and Module 2: Creating Healthy Adult Relationships). I studying interpersonal neurobiology and trauma with Bonnie Badenoch in my new home state of Washington. In addition, I have developed an interest in healing in indigineous cultures.

I stepped into the SE community in 2010 and I have been studying somatic psychology and writing on the subject since. My publications have appeared in national and international conferences. I had a regular column in Somatic Psychotherapy Today, a magazine of the USABP, for five years. I coauthored a book chapter along with Jacqueline Carleton on the role of the autonomic nervous system in psychotherapy in the Handbook for Body Psychotherapy and Somatic Psychology published in 2015. My latest service was as Guest Editor of the International Body Psychotherapy Journal of the United States Association for Body Psychotherapy where we published a handful of graduate student papers.

As a New York transplant in the Pacific Northwest, I am a licensed mental heath clinician in NY, WA and OR states. I have a private practice in the Columiba River gorge and Portland, OR metro areas. My office is in Downtown Vancouver and Downtown Camas in Washington state, both of which are easily accessible from Portland. I do work with folks in NY by phone or video conferencing.
