About Gary Cosel, Psy.D., SEP
Dr. Gary Cosel has been a behavioral health provider in private practice since 1980. He has also served as graduate faculty(1994-2003) for the University of Northern Colorado, Dept. of Professional Psychology - as an instructor and internship coordinator. He maintains a wide range of training and experience in clinical psychology - including the cognitive-behavioral, family/couples systems, and somatic based psychotherapies. www.drcosel.com (website)
Dr. Cosel completed the three-year comprehensive training to earn his certificate as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) in October 2013. He continues to pursue advanced training in workshops and consultations offered by the highly respected faculty within the SE Training Institute.
In addition to a general clinical practice, Dr. Cosel has specialized training and experience in medical psychology - treating survivors of motor-vehicle accidents who are challenged with chronic pain, psychological trauma & fears of driving, and mild traumatic brain injuries. Additional focus has targeted the multiple needs of military personnel, veterans, and their families - struggling with complex combat exposure PTSD, brain injuries, and dysregulated autonomic nervous systems. Dr. Cosel offers personalized Individual counseling services to adults and seniors struggling with anxiety, depression, and adjustment to difficult life transitions.
Dr. Cosel believes that counseling intervention is most successful when a trusting and non-judgmental relationship is built between clients and himself. He makes every effort to show patients his investment in their care by "walking with them" through their challenging times. It is not unusual for Dr. Cosel's clients to seek his services at various times throughout their lifetime - and in this sense, proud of his work as an individual and family practitioner.
