About Abby Rose
A Somatic Experiencing practitioner and Hanna Somatic Educator in the Bay Area for more than 15 years, I have a gentle, educational approach to help you calm your body’s emergency response system, quiet your mind and build a sense of safety and resilience in your life. My goal is to guide you to the healing resources that are your birthright, and have been a part of you all along.
Difficult life experiences can make a lasting imprint, shaping our sense of identity and world view. Working on core struggles through the lens of the body takes us to the place where rational thought meets instinct, giving us access to our deepest strength and wisdom. It also connects us to primal survival mechanisms that are designed to keep us safe. Chronic stress and trauma cause these lifesaving systems to get stuck in over-drive, creating anxiety, shame, helplessness, depression, hypervigilance and chronic pain. Our body is both where our stress response lives and where our nervous system calms itself. Working on entrenched struggles through the vehicle of the body gives us the best chance to work through challenges at the deepest level and in the most profound way.
Sessions focus on childhood trauma, emotional and sexual abuse, physical injury, medical procedures, and other forms of both traumatic and routine stress. Symptoms include: anxiety, panic attacks, depression, feeling stuck in shame, chronic pain, chronic tension, insomnia, a sense of hypervigilance, and physical symptoms with no apparent cause. My work is designed to help you cultivate a sense of curiosity about your internal experience so you can discover the innate healing mechanisms that lie within the symptoms themselves.
I have an affinity for helping those with spiritual or mindfulness practices to navigate difficult energetic or emotional experiences that can arise during meditation and spiritual inquiry. I welcome those who have (or are interested in) using the creative process as a tool for inquiry. I have a strong interest in working with chronic pain and movement limitations. My approach is deeply informed by my own 15 year history of chronic pain, which was resolved by integrating Somatic Experiencing with Hanna Somatic Education (neuromuscular re-education). All ethnicities, cultural backgrounds and sexual orientations are warmly invited.
I enjoy collaborating with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare providers to form a supportive team for my clients. I have assisted in SE trainings, and am a provider of required sessions for beginning and intermediate SE students.
