About Jane Lazar
Hello and welcome. After you read my description, feel free to contact me with any questions. I am a certified Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner, a certified NARM™* Practitioner (healing developmental/relational trauma), and an ordained Zen priest. For many years I assisted at Somatic Experiencing (SE) professional trainings, and I am approved to provide sessions for SE students at all levels. I’m currently on the teaching team for Bay Area NARM trainings. My private practice is in South Berkeley.
My work is based on the wonderful news that our body and psyche have an innate impulse to move towards health and connection. This impulse can be trusted, and is alive as long as we are, no matter how deep or old our stress or trauma may be.
Both SE and NARM have this inner movement towards health at their core. SE focuses more on shock trauma, NARM on developmental or relational issues. Trained in both, I am able to move fluidly between the two modalities, depending on your needs and what arises. It is a potent combination.
I can help you cultivate the sense of safety needed to gently release constriction, stress or intense feelings, using your own awareness. I can help you inquire into inner conflicts that may be dampening your vitality or your ability to move towards what you want with ease and confidence. As a result of our work together, you may feel an increased sense of agency, integration, and vitality, as well as a greater sense of well-being.
In Somatic Experiencing, my intention is three-fold: to facilitate the release of symptoms, to impart simple skills that you can practice on your own to settle and stabilize your nervous system, and to open the door to the richness of an embodied life. With NARM, my intention is to help you gain freedom and choice in relation to shame-based identities or other stuck patterns, through a process of inquiry and somatic mindfulness.
My background also includes offering workshops which I have co-designed and taught at the San Francisco Zen Center for the last six years, bringing SE principles into the context of spiritual practice. I have a blackbelt in Aikido, and past trainer certification in NonViolent Communication.
For several years I provided sessions to residents at a homeless shelter, COTS, in Petaluma, CA, as part of an SE clinic and in 2009 I traveled to India with Lotus Circle International to teach SE and provide sessions to Indian village women. Ordained as a Zen priest in the Suzuki Roshi lineage, I have participated in 11 years of monastic training
