About Lisa Young
In addition to being a licensed clinical social worker, I have completed the Intermediate level of SE training. I’ve received over 2000 hours in Addiction training, have received private mentorship in Sandtray therapy and have completed 2 years of training in Internal Family Systems.
Somatic Experiencing speaks to my guiding principle as a therapist that we have an innate driving force and ability to heal from trauma.
Trauma often can leave us feeling fragmented from parts of ourselves that feel essential to who we are. That can feel dysregulating and off-balance. Because of this fragmentation, and having lost trust in ourselves as a result, we often turn to external sources such as substances, relationships, or seemingly self-sabotaging activities to find a sense of balance. Those external sources can become disruptive to our lives and drive us away from our own ability to heal. We can become further fragmented or dependent on them. When our bodies and our minds can work together in service of moving towards resolution of the trauma, we begin to build our resilience and get a “felt sense” of healing. It is my goal to facilitate this movement towards resilience.
Because our healing from trauma is unique to us as individuals, it requires an integrated approach. The integrative combination of SE, IFS, and relational attunement allows for clients to build their capacity and their connection to their capacity in a way that allows them to move forward in their life unburdened by negative events of the past. I pull from 13 years of work with clients in various settings with diverse circumstances. My areas of specialty include trauma resolution, addictions, anxiety, eating disorders, and traumatic grief. I work with adults and adolescents
