About Joan C Stenzler
As a holistic psychotherapist in practice for over 20 years. I continue to be amazed by the strong yearning that we humans have to grow, heal and transform! I offer holistic and body-centered psychotherapy for individuals and couples and help them become freed of attitudes and habits that bind, confine and diminish their capacity for contentment, happiness and peace.
In an atmosphere of unconditional acceptance and safety, I teach patients to release the need for judgment and drop into the present moment to be with what is, from a place of heartfelt compassion and loving kindness.
I've completed my three year SE training and am a practicing SEP. In 2016, I finished Raja Selvam's Integrative Somatic Psychology (ISP) ISP uses awareness, movement, breath and self touch to help patients build their capacity to be present when difficult psychological states arise.
While the body-centered therapy I offer does involve therapeutic talk, the nature of the conversation focuses more on helping patients become more attuned to their own sensory experience through the body, then to expand upon and build inner capacity to remain present with it. By do so, the patient becomes able to connect with insights and realizations previously out of their awareness, to process and resolve them.
I have a 500-hour certification in Kripalu Yoga, have meditated myself for the past 20 years and bring a conscious, mindful perspective to my work. For many years I was a staff assistant at Advanced Leven Kripalu Yoga Teacher trainings and Contemplative Wellness programs at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Lenox, Massachusetts.
Where there is an interest, I teach patients concepts from yoga psychology, meditation, Ayurveda and Eastern wisdom traditions. By applying knowledge from these holistic, wellness-based approaches, individuals can learn to transcend the limitations of the mind, and create a broader context in which to live a rich, healthy and abundant life.
As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, yoga and meditation teacher, I help my patients to connect with the body, tune into sensation and build deep intuitive awareness that makes healing possible. For more recent situations like car accidents, SE has been quite successful at making resolution possible more quickly, in a way that verbal therapy alone simply cannot.
In my SE® practice, I work with adults and couples. I am especially interested in helping those who've had chronic pain, medical issues and emotional trauma in childhood. I am also fascinated by and interested in studying about the impact of birth trauma and how SE® can help to uncover and resolve such issues.
