About Linda M Smith
I provide counseling services for individuals and couples ranging in age from young adult to adult. I have a special interest in working with individuals on issues of trauma, abuse, grief and loss, stress management, adjustment issues, anxiety, depression, adult ADD/ life coaching, communication skills, conflict resolution, workplace issues, relationship issues, women’s issues, life transitions, family of origin issues, gay and lesbian issues including family support, addiction/recovery issues as well as family support. I use a variety of well-researched and effective methods of intervention or modalities such as Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy and Somatic Experiencing.
My philosophy is that people can make better decisions if they have enough information and understand how something works. Counseling offers a safe environment for self-exploration, personal growth, and self-actualization. I believe in the positive potential of all people and will work towards my client’s growth and development in a manner that promotes his/her interest and welfare. The direction of therapy is the responsibility of the client, and we will work together to accomplish mutually agreed upon goals. My basic approach to counseling is a person-centered approach. This means I believe my clients have the potential to become aware of problems and the means to resolve them. I believe in my client’s ability to become self-aware and self-directed. It is important to personally look at what we are doing that keeps us from getting where we want to go. Counseling is about personal growth and development not how to change others. It takes courage to be self-reflective, accountable, and to take responsibility for our part in our lives. The counseling environment is a safe and supportive place to take growth-filled steps on your personal journey toward health and well-being. I welcome the opportunity to walk on this journey with you.
