About Mariana Caplan, PhD, MFT, SEP
Welcome to my private practice. I am a California State licensed psychotherapist (lic.#50312), certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, yoga teacher, and author of 6 books in the fields of psychology and spirituality, including: Eyes Wide Open: Cultivating Discernment on the Spiritual Path, and Halfway Up the Mountain: the Error of Premature Claims to Enlightenment. I have over 20 years of experience with helping individuals, couples, and families to heal and thrive. I have been a certifed SEP since 2010, and since 2006 have been developing The Yoga & Psyche Method based on integrating Somatic Experincing with Yoga, including physical postures/asanas, as well as yoga's deeper dimensions of meditation and and breathwork, culminating to date with teaching on this integration with Dr. Levine in February, 2016.
My training spans a variety of traditional and modern psychotherapeutic modalities including: Somatic Experiencing and other somatic methods, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, and Transpersonal Psychotherapies, and I am committed to a lifelong and ongoing study in my field. I fully believe that psychotherapy is not only about overcoming wounds and working through problems and traumas, but about healing, thriving, becoming relationally healthy, vocationally empowered, and fulfilling our highest potential as human beings. No matter how wounded, traumatized, or unstable the individual, couple, or family feels when entering my practice, I am able to see, and help them to discover, their fundamental goodness and gifts, and provide a steady, safe, compassionate, and confidential space in which healing and thriving can and will emerge.
As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, I am equally comforable doing both sessions that are solely focused on this practice, as well as integrating it with other modalities of psychotherapy. I have also been doing Skype and distance work for many years, and have learned to work effectively with somatic practices and other therapeutic modalities at a distance, so I welcome people from all over the world into my practice.
I regularly offer weekends and immersions on the integration of Somatic Experiencing and Yoga, often under the title of Yoga & Psyche, at major universities and retreat centers in California and throughout the world, and am open to train people internationally in The Yoga & Psyche Method. Up-to-date information on these trainings can be found at www:realspirituality.com.
