About Vickie M. Cottle
Vickie Cottle, founder of Discovering Equus, is an Emmy award winning musician and teacher. After 30 years in the music industry, her musical passion transformed into facilitating what clients claim to be life changing, transformative experiences as a result of their time spent with Vickie and the horses.
As a client explores a mutually consensual relationship with a horse, it is both fun and challenging. Imagine the client, as they experience a deep connection with the horses, being capable of transforming fear into courage, managing and negotiating change, mastering boundary setting and practicing assertiveness. Noticing patterns of behavior that don't seem to communicate effectively with the horse and always aware of being safe, the client begins to build healthy boundaries, a resiliency in dealing with unexpected events and learns to recognize and develop emotional congruity between the inner experience and the outer behavior.
The human/horse connection sessions sometimes expose client's previously unexplored wounds. Vickie, as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, engages the client with the clear, firm, yet gentle somatic experience practice, allowing and inviting the healing to progress without re-traumatizing the client.
Training for Vickie to facilitate the horse/human connection began with graduation from Linda Kohanov's (author of "The Tao of Equus", "Riding Between the Worlds", and "Power of the Herd") year long training program. Through continued work with Kohanov, Vickie is now an advanced facilitator of Equine Experiential Learning.
In addition to individual clients, Vickie has worked with corporate groups and their leadership teams. She has hosted Kaiser Permanente staff for their leadership training program.
Vickie has taken her horses to the Betty Ford Center in Palm Springs for staff and client workshops. In 2008, Vickie worked, along with team members Peggy Macy Martin and Nancy Waite-O'Brien, with Alumni of the Betty Ford Center.
Whether working with individuals or groups, Vickie is a teacher whose work focuses primarily on teaching adults how to live in the present -- to identify, access and use the emotional messages from their body to bring connectedness, balance and a sense of thriving into their lives. This life enhancing process is completed through the integration of Somatic Experience into the equine facilitated learning practice.
