About Prapti Giri

As we learn how to regulate our own nervous systems, we become more able to participate in the joys and challenges that life brings. Healing our own wounds also helps us develop the capacity to be present for both ourselves and others. Through my own healing journey I have learned that health is not just an individual state, but a collective and social dynamic. I also believe that health is an integration of mind, body, and spirit.

Over the last 16 years, I have worked as a nurse in mental health care, acute care, palliative care, and community nursing with homeless and under-housed people. Witnessing and helping people to find peace and comfort as they experience life-altering trauma has had a profound impact on me. Through my work as a nurse I have constantly been faced with the question: What does it mean to live well?

While completing my Masters of Social Work, I studied how systemic oppressions such as racism, sexism, ableism and classism affect individual and collective well-being. I am also interested in how ancestry impacts our lives, and especially how colonialism and its economy shape our identities and our interactions with others.

I am in the advanced year of Somatic Experiencing training. I also have training in narrative, psychodynamic and attachment theories. I have completed the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program, and have a daily meditation and yoga practice which supports me in the work that I do. I am committed to building a relationship that supports your unique needs, develops your strengths, and fosters your innate ability to heal.
