About Julie Clarke

I work as a Child and Youth Care Practitioner (UVIC, '11) and a Registered Psychotherapist (MACP, '16). I have had a private practice since 2011 initially starting out with children as young as 5 years old and working up to age 18 years. I have worked as a casual Child and Youth Counsellor at a local regional children's hospital in the inpatient/outpatient and emergency room psychiatry departments.  I have also worked in a local family health team assisting general practitioners with patients requiring mental health care for general issues such as chronic pain, grief, trauma, stress, anxiety, depression and others.

I work from a relational, developmental perspective in my direct practice work. I recently launched an online virtual parent consultation program to assist parents with their on-going challenges with their child/youth. In addition to SE and Dr. Peter Levine's work informing my practice I have also studied the work of Dr. Gordon Neufeld. A Canadian Developmental Psychologist, a comprehensive theory of attachment that assists parents in following their natural intuition and building strong relationships. Neufeld's work is complimentary to Levine's SE approach.

I specifically sought out training as an SE practitioner due to the body-oriented focus rather than a specific therapeutic modality that targets areas of reclaiming memories or changing thoughts and beliefs about how we feel. The SE approach is a style aligned with my personal and professional approach, it felt more organic and gentle when processing highly complex and challenging issues related to trauma and other stress disorders an for this reason I felt it was the right fit for me to aquire skills in working with trauma.
