About "Ray" Rachel T. Humphrey

I came to counseling as a second career, after many years working as a chef and working artist. Navigating recovery from chronic illness and trauma, I become aware that mainstream approaches to talk therapy and healing were missing some vital elements: the lived experience and wisdoms of the person seeking help.

We need more spaces for healing which are culturally sensitive, curious, kind-hearted, and courageous in spirit. If you are someone who feels that mainstream approaches often overlook your experience, you deserve approaches to healing that meet you where you are and recognize the values and strengths of your experience. This is where Narrative therapy and Somatic therapies shine, by starting with the strengths, experiences and untapped resources of the person seeking help. My clinical work has become focused on working with many folks of many walks of life, primarily with LGBTQIA+, highly sensitive people, professional caretakers, neurodiverse people, and many diverse peoples often relegated to the margins. Awen Somatic Therapy seeks to center your experience and wisdom toward meaningful, embodied healing. Trauma and struggle do not discriminate, neither ought spaces of healing.

I believe we all have within us, and our relationships, meaningful resources for healing and change.  I work in a way that keeps you at the heart of all we do together. Your relationships, your values and knowledges will guide our work towards change that is meaningful to you, for you. Working somatically and narratively means we will explore the whole of your experience, rather than just "talk:" we move, we talk, we play... we listen to the wisdom of your own experience for cues toward meaningful change and embodied wellbeing.

Embodied well-being honors your body, mind, spirit, and place in community. Embodied well-being is open to all bodies, forms of relationships, and diverse communities.
