About Dr. Roby Abeles
I do not have an availability for new clients for the rest of 2017.
I have been a psychotherapist specialising in trauma and addiction resolution since 1989.
My experience is that deep pain and or trauma is at the core of all addiction. The addiction was a short term answer to an intolerable state of being, which then became a problem in itself, and overtook the person's life. So, if my clients have addiction issues, we work to relieve the pain at the core of that, while also teaching them alternate methods to deal with emotional and other upsets, so they then have a choice of what to do to help soothe themselves.
I provide my clients a range of integrative and regulative therapies, the aim of which, is to bring healing to all levels of a client's being; physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and energetic.
I believe that each of my clients has the innate capacity to heal, and I see my client and I as a team, both of us gently moving them towards an experience of both full resolution of symptoms and an expanded quality of life.
The way I present therapy to my clients has been the result of my own training in:
Body Oriented Psychotherapy (I have been an SE Practitioner since 2012)
Brain-Based Relational therapy (I am a Brainspotting trainer in Australia)
EMDR (Approved Consultant)
Studies in orthomolecular and functional medicine
And also by my own personal healing journey as a client, working to resolve my own addictions, traumas and other challenges.
My formal tertiary qualifications and experience include:
BA In Psychology, specialising in Chemical Dependency Counselling,
MA in Applied and Spiritual Psychology,
Doctorate (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology.
I have been fortunate to have lived in Southern California, USA, for almost 20 years, where I availed myself of the many and varied therapy training opportunities which were available there.
I have been trained in Ego State Therapy, EMDR (Approved Consultant in Australia) esp. the Strategic Developmental Model for EMDR, Thought Field Therapy (TFT), and I co-developed a Resourcing and Body/Mind Regulation Program called M.A.T.E.S. in Australia wih my colleague Salene Souza.
I have also had the privilige of studying with Dr Daniel Siegel for a year while studying his work in Interpersonal Neurobiology.
In the late 1980's, I was trained in addictions work at The Betty Ford Center in California.
I was an early co-organiser of the first SE Australia training.
